Is there a well-defined creative personality? Of course, there is. Highly creative individuals and geniuses have marked similar traits and although every human being is creative in one way or the other, some individuals actually develop their creativity too well and so they are recognized as creative geniuses.

Psychologists believe that all highly creative individuals have certain common personality traits.

“I said to Mom the other day, ‘Do you remember that girl? She has now gone, gone to sleep. She has said her piece and is gone.’ But then I thought, I so remember her, only she is no longer part of me.

“I am so sorry she was hurting for so long. It’s all so negatively narcissistic to be so consumed with self.”

Of course, depression is not simply “being consumed” with yourself.

Sometimes high sensitivity may be based on difficult or hurtful situations. Ashley Judd says she was a “hypervigilant child.”

To fuel creative expression requires that we have an ability to be in touch with internal and external feelings and sensations.

As Michael Eigen, PhD, author of the book The Sensitive Self, puts it, “Thinking and feeling are ways sensitivity unfolds or grows… without the sensory sea we take for granted, feeling and thought would dry up and die.”
